Blog Friend to IRL Friend

Anyone who has blogged for any length of time understands the kind of friendships that develop over the internet.  Rather than handwriting letters and sending them through the mail to a pen pal, we communicate through our blogs and emails and develop close ties to each other and our families.  Not only do I know the blogger, but I know their kids, their spouses, their friends, and even their pets.  I share in their laughter, pain, vacations, holidays, and trips to the grocery store.  And when you get the opportunity to meet these friends that live in your computer it is a joy.  It’s not awkward or weird.  There’s no lull in the conversation where someone is trying to think of something to say to kill the silence.  It is like meeting a long lost friend and as soon as you see each other you pick up right where you left off.

Yesterday afternoon Kelli from Random Thoughts of a Supermom emailed me to let me know there was a last minute change in their itinerary and that they would be stopping in San Antonio for a short time and asked if I’d like to meet up for lunch.  My answer?  Of course!  Her email came at just the right time too because I was having one whopper of a pity party over another we-like-you-but-not-enough-to-include-you-in-our-plans incident.  I tried to invite Chris to my party but he decided I was having to grand of a time all by myself and didn’t want to join.  Apparently, I am just that bad of a hostess.

Kelli was one of my very first followers on my blog.  I don’t remember how I found her, but I do remember loving the title of her blog and being sucked right in and never leaving.  She is an incredible crafter/do-it-yourselfer and reminds me constantly of how deprived my children are because I fail to make cool waffles for every occasion or buy chalkboard paint.  Luckily my boys don’t read her blog so they are blissfully unaware of just how deprived they really are.  Right now they are doing a cross-country trip in a re-habbed Airstream camper.  Very cool.  I can’t wait until she gets home and blogs all about it because it sounded AH-MAZING when she was telling me about it today at lunch.

Her boys are adorable and chatted away with Jakob and Nolan all during lunch.  (I took my camera with me today, but left it in the van.  Yup, I’m all kinds of distracted and stuff.)  They are so cute.  I love how the waitress thought if she tilted her head back that she wouldn’t be photo-bombing my shot.

lunch with kelli

We went to the Riverwalk and ate Tex-Mex food and my boys enjoyed the free refills on soda.  Chris called and said he was downtown so he joined us for lunch and we all just sat around and talked until Kelli and her crew had to head out.

If you ever get the chance to meet a blogger, DO IT!  You will not regret it one bit.  Yes, you will go a little crazy trying to figure out what to wear (My $10 dress from the grocery store), how to fix your hair (I flat-ironed it when the humidity today was probably near 100%), wondering if you should touch up your nail polish (I didn’t but I did have a Toy Story bandaid on my foot), and if they will like you in person(Hopefully I haven’t scared her away), but once you see them all those worries end.

Thanks for the great afternoon Kelli!

JEALOUS!!!! Dagnamit! I want to meet you IRL! One day, Jules, one day! :)

First off, I love the dress. $10 for real? And, from the... grocery store? LOL! Also, I noticed your bandaid almost immediately. I tried to zoom in 'cause I SO thought you had a tattoo you hadn't told us about. Bwahahaha. Then I had an internal argument with myself about whether or not to ask you if you did, in fact, have a tattoo you never mentioned because what if it was some sort of birth mark or scar from one of your many foot injuries... and what if me bringing it up upset you (yes I WAY over think things sometimes)? So, it's a bandaid?! Whew! LOLOL!

Yea! So glad you were able to meet her. And yes it is so odd meeting bloggers as even though they are technically someone you never met it does not feel that way at all

So jealous! But so glad you had a great time. I have a feeling should you and I ever meet in real life, I will find that you are right - no awkwardness.

And really? $10? At the grocery? Which one; cuz that's one cute dress!

She sounds cool.

But seriously - when is MY turn?

Except I'm scared to either melt or get killed by the giant venomous snake in your backyard.

So let's meet at Brandi's, k?

Love the pic of the boys together!

And I love the pic of you guys too.

I just couldn't quite stop giggling at the little kid on the left who looked like he would cut someone if they reached for a fry.
